The story begins when Alex Cross' idyllic life is shattered by the hit man who murders his wife. Cross had been a cop then, and the story jumps ahead to his career move to the FBI, after which an altercation with his grandmother prompts him to change careers again. In the present, Cross is a therapist raising three children with help from Nana Mama, and only occasionally consulting for the Washington PD or the FBI. He gets pulled into the case of a serial rapist only because he believes it's the same man who murdered his wife. The Butcher was a mafia hit man who had fun mutilating his victims, and the FBI has wanted him for a long time, but he's like a shadow who leaves no trace of himself. In actuality, he's been raising a family in the suburbs, occasionally taking a job or venturing into the city to commit a rape or a murder, photographing his grisly deeds to frighten future victims.

The story ambles along following both the lives of Alex Cross and the Butcher, Michael Sullivan. Sullivan is an interesting character, though his family life doesn't exactly ring true and there are several violent incidents he'd have a tough time explaining to his family that get glossed over and forgotten. Alex Cross is as exciting as oatmeal. The author obviously thinks highly of him, but I found him a bit too much of a great guy. He's one of those people who can whimsically pick and choose from professional careers, and never utters a misplaced word or commits a dastardly deed. And what a dad! He's also the hope and salvation of more than one branch of law enforcement because he's such an incredible detective, but he's so terribly bland about it, I found myself wishing something bad would happen just to liven things up. Also, in an apparent bid to ensure the book made money even if sales were low, Patterson seems to have worked out a deal with Mercedes, singing the praises of their crossover vehicle several dozen times too often. I half expected to see Mercedes in the acknowledgements, or at least find their logo on the cover.

Though I have read a Women's Murder Club book by Patterson and liked it a lot, that same feeling did not translate to this book. Not only was the change between points of view jarring, Alex Cross is a snore. He's easily the most vanilla lead character I've come across in a long time. Patterson has quite a following, and some of his books are good, but this one fell far short of impressing me.

The James Patterson books that I've read are super quick reads. Lot's of chapters with lots of white-space between each chapter. A great, down-to-earth writing style that any 'normal' person can relate to. And most importantly: lots of action.

It's no wonder every writer under the sun is trying to get Patterson to attach his name to their own novels. Man, I think that there were four titles on the rack of popular books at the airport this week that had James Patterson's name on the cover either by himself or with a co-writer.

So is all this 'writing' burning the guy out? Because while Cross had the traits that I mentioned earlier, the story was not quite as well put together as what I was used to from Patterson.

It's actually been a while since I sat down with one of Patterson's Alex Cross stories (2003's The Big Bad Wolf). So for Cross, I was a little rusty on some of the lead protagonist's background. Hence, when Patterson started jumping around in timeframes in Cross, I found it confusing. One minute in the early stages of the book we're back like over 10 years ago, the next minute were in the present day. And those time frames would probably be crystal clear to an avid follower of the Alex cross novels, but they were lost on me until I kinda had to put it together myself.

I mean the words were there to distinguish the different time periods, but if you blink, which I apparently did, you might miss the transformation(s).

And then Cross ended so abruptly. The book deals with the hunt for a brutal serial rapist/killer that may have more connections to Alex Cross than he bargained for. Brutal rape/murder after brutal rape murder occur, and at the end of the story you're screaming for a justice equal to the atrocities that the bad guy has committed. But ultimately what I got just didn't feel 'right'. It felt 'rushed'. Like Patterson needed to get to his next co-write appointment.

So overall, I did get wrapped up and thoroughly engrossed in the story. But I certainly didn't walk away with that satisfying Along Came a Spider or Kiss the Girls kind of feeling. Cross did do it's job however as a companion on a flight with two 4 hour legs and a few hours of down-time on recent holiday.

James Patterson never disappoints me. His books in this series gets better and better and harder to put down. This book had action every time you turned the page. It had suspense and the kind of thriller i liked to read because you never know what is going to happen next. I cannot wait to read the other books in his series.

never dull and follows the efforts of the embassy team to ...

The story is set in 1988 Russia while the Cold War was still flourishing. An American tourist gets lost in an isolated, restricted forest area outside Moscow and is confronted by a rogue American who claims to be one of hundreds of American prisoners of war kidnapped at the end of the war in Vietnam and traded by the North Vietnamese to Russia in exchange for missiles.

The plot follows American Embassy staffers Colonel Sam Hollis, Lisa Rhodes and other agents as they attempt to verify the escapee’s story that the POWs have been imprisoned for more than two decades at a special high-security facility affectionately referred by the prisoners as Mrs. Ivanoff’s Charm School. The American captives are forced to train Soviet agents in how to become American in their speech, dress, demeanor and social habits. When the Russians are fully trained to be indistinguishable from real Americans, they are deployed to the United States as agents assigned to infiltrate and assimilate into sensitive areas of American business, the military and government where they will relay intelligence back to Moscow. This book was written pre-911 and its message is eerily prophetic.

The Charm School is fast-moving, never dull and follows the efforts of the embassy team to verify the story, locate the school and perhaps finally free the captive American POWs, who are now middle-aged. Espionage is always clouded by an overlaying lack of trust of anyone within the circle of characters. This is further complicated by the everyday difficulties associated with simply speaking, traveling, socializing or trying to work under the watchful and paranoid eye of the KGB. This book will appeal to men and women alike, and as I said, I couldn’t put it down. But, if you’re ever in Russia, don’t go off-roading.

Loved it except for the ending.

I love DeMille and love his books. This is an older title, but I have just gotten around to reading it. It is set in the Cold War era when there was a Commie under every bush. All I could think of while reading this was "Moose and Squirrel must die!" I loved everything about this book except the ending. It's not that the ending was bad, it just wasn't the ending I was expecting or hoping. I always get engrossed in my reading and start relating to the characters and story. This ending left me cold; fell flat. I could see it ending this way in the real world, but not in the world of fiction - or at least DeMille's fiction. Others may disagree and I am sure they will and you will have your own opinion. I wanted a decisive, vengeful ending - it wasn't there. Nevertheless, I recommend this book as it is compelling and entertaining.

Amazing and outstanding

Nelson DeMille may be my favorite author. I thought that I had read all of his books but, obviously, somehow I missed THE CHARM SCHOOL, first published in the 1980s.

Like all of his thrillers, THE CHARM SCHOOL, too, is the type of page turner that a reader cannot put down; indeed, it is difficult not to clear one's calendar totally in order to keep reading until the conclusion.

No one--and I mean no one--crafts a better plot, or tells a tale more forcefully, than does DeMille.

As always with a DeMille work, the story is so fact-laden that the reader comes out the richer for having been exposed to his detailed and accurate research.

Forget that THE CHARM SCHOOL is set in the Former Soviet Union just before it fell. It remains one of the best spy stories ever...and none of us can be sure that spying does not continue, right to the present, on some level; in fact, it is unlikely that the USA and the FSU countries (or, at least, modern Russia) are not spying on each other still, in some abbreviated fashion.

Using a protagonist who is a military officer trained in espionage and assigned to the United States' Moscow embassy, the plot examines whether there could have been a deeply covered-up training camp for Russian spies near Minsk (today, the capital of modern, FSU Belarus.) In this novel, just such an operation, sarcastically known as "the charm school," supposedly was designed as an American small town to prepare its students for deep cover insertion into the USA. Could this have happened? Could the USA yet be housing some of these same implants?

Typical of DeMille, his detail here is so thorough, and so plausible, that one cannot wonder whether he put in his own days as a spy or as a staff member of the American Embassy in Moscow.

Typical DeMille: A wonderful read and an exciting, unforgettable story!

Very Entertaining (short) Beach Book, Grisham-esque!

The dust jacket leads off with the claim that the authors have "written THE beach read of the season...", so let's start by acknowledging this is an entry in fun summertime reading, not classic literature. That said, Patterson and de Jonge have collaborated to amuse and entertain for a most pleasant afternoon read. Take out the blank and half-blank pages, and what's left barely extends beyond page 200, so it is a fast run through. The short (typically 3-page) chapters add to the hustle of the pace; and the story per se kept our attention to the very last page. So you should find your pages turning in a pretty big hurry.
The plot is essentially a mystery, though not one about who got killed (Peter Mullen, a likable 20-year old who spends much of his time in bed, with company); nor who did it (we find that out pretty quickly); nor will the police catch the bad guys. Rather, it's almost a morality tale where the older brother, Jack Mullen, a recent law school graduate, devotes a year or so to solving the whole crime, proving the finding of the original coroner's inquest to be faulty (bought and paid for); and then pursuing justice as best he can with a little help from his friends and relatives. A little romance along the way just helps our feet curl up more sand.
We find as good a plot as Patterson has dreamed up in a little while, and before it's all over, we get bowls full of corruption, greed, big money parties and mansions, lust and illicit sex, romance, justice and injustice. The ending should satisfy just about everybody's idea of what's fair, but the suspense that leads us there makes the book tough to put down.
What more can one ask for fun at the seashore?!?!

Co-Authoring suits Mr. Patterson

Not that he's not a competent writer of great murder mysteries in his own right, of course.
The formula of this book is no different than any other by this author or any in the genre. Someone's murdered, someone's going to investigate it, the person investigating it is going to have an edgy flirtation with the person who comes along to help with the investigation (usually a cop or PI) and using creative and completely illegal means, the original crime will be solved.
In this case, the victim is the brother of the main character, the "bad guy" is richer than words can describe, the love interest a female PI, and, as always, the police are inept and can't see a crime where one exists.
It's all about as formulaic as most of the reviews (seriously - how many book endings have literally "shocked" you?) but it's what Patterson does best. I've found these are great books to read on flights and while waiting in airports - great way to capture your attention, kill a few hours of time, and enjoy a storyteller's ability to draw you into their world where good eventually wins.

Reminiscent Of Early Grisham

Peter Mullen is dead, found on a beach in the Hamptons. Was it an accident or murder? His brother, Jack, sets out to prove it was murder and that wealthy summer residents in the Hamptons are covering it up. The story is irresistible and races to a surprising conclusion. The "trial" that finally comes to pass is a little hokey, but satisfying. Jack is an excellent central character, but his grandfather, Mack, was my favorite. This story is reminiscent of early John Grisham novels. A smart young man takes on the rich and powerful. Oh, and there is a sweet love story thrown in for good measure. A fast and entertaining summer read.

Like Green's previous thriller, The Fourth Perimeter, this book opens with an engaging premise that becomes less credible as the novel unfolds. Jack Ruskin, a senior partner in a prominent New York law firm, is beside himself with rage; his 15-year-old daughter is semicatatonic after being raped by a repeat sex offender, and the criminal has gotten off with a minimal sentence. Jack decides to take the law into his own hands. He hunts down and kills a randomly selected sex offender in upstate New York. Driven by bloodlust, Jack then embarks on a series of similar vigilante executions as he travels around the country on business for the firm. He falls in love with Beth, an empathetic young counselor at his daughter's hospital, but there's a close call when Beth nearly catches him surfing the Web for likely victims. He offs another criminal while the he and Beth are on an idyllic getaway in the Adirondacks. As the bodies pile up, FBI agent Amanda Lee is assigned to track down Jack. Amanda has her own interest in the case-her partner was recently killed by a child abuser resisting arrest. The briskly paced thriller culminates in a revealing showdown when Amanda traps Jack on Long Island. The action is engaging, but between the lurid goings-on and the lurid prose ("His little girl was a shell with scars on her body and holes punched in her veins to feed her drugs"), the story verges on bad pulp. Fans of Green's earlier novels will be satisfied with this one, but some may wish he had brought a bit more craft and restraint to his compelling premise.

Thus begins Jack's vigilantism--if the law can't put these guys away, then he will, and for good--as he targets random child abusers from jurisdictions across the country. Sensing a common perpetrator as convicted-and-released child abusers begin to show up dead, the FBI assigns agent Amanda Lee to work with the locals to tie the pieces together. Amanda has some baggage of her own, coming off a leave of absence after having witnessed her former partner's murder, and she's miserable playing the dutiful wife to her spineless husband. Though the story is gripping, who's to like here? The murdering do-gooder? The agent who resents her husband and kids? The local cops who either turn a blind eye to what's happening or just want another victory for their war chest? I have enjoyed all the Tim Green books I have read. This book was purchased for a niece who likes mysteries and is stationed in Afghanistan. I think she will like it as much as I did.

This is far and away Tim Green's best work

Revenge, according to the Chinese proverb, is a lunch best eaten cold. It can take many forms. A well-known attorney in San Francisco, after the particularly acrimonious dissolution of his law partnership, trained his dog to leave a daily deposit each morning on the steps of his former partner's office. The other end of the spectrum is documented in Max Alan Collins's THE ROAD TO PERDITION. Tim Green's latest novel, THE FIFTH ANGEL, definitely runs toward the Perdition end of the spectrum.
The title refers to the fifth angel of the apocalypse, the angel who will bring the vial of pain and death to the throne of Satan and who will pour the contents on Satan's tongue. Jack Ruskin is the fifth angel and his self-appointed mission is to bring an end to child molesters who have gotten less than their just deserts. Ruskin, a respected partner of a prestigious law firm, is a somewhat unlikely candidate for the position. He is, however, uniquely if unfortunately qualified: his daughter is slowly recovering from an abduction and abuse by a molester, whose sentence amounts to a relative wrist slap. Ruskin snaps and begins to plan his revenge. He is a former prosecutor and, as a result of his background, knows exactly what forensics is capable --- and incapable --- of doing in detecting and proving guilt or innocence.
Ruskin embarks on a program to do the job that the courts could not do and rid the world of criminals like the one who so irrevocably damaged his daughter. He carefully researches each of his victims and brutally dispatches them, seemingly leaving no clues. Part of the brilliance of Ruskin's plan is that he has absolutely no connection to his victim; he simply identifies them through public records and enacts his plan in different parts of the country. When an obnoxious but brilliant detective figures out what Ruskin is doing and begins to close in on him, Ruskin's mission of vengeance appears to be over. But not everyone wants him to be caught. And the reader won't either.
Green paints Ruskin as a wholly sympathetic character and it is hard to disapprove of Ruskin's mission or methods. And when the family of an FBI agent, assigned to find Ruskin, is targeted as well by a molester, the rightness of Ruskin's mission is all but vindicated.
Green is a member of the James Patterson literary school, combining exciting plotting with rapid pacing to keep the reader involved and turning the pages rapidly. THE FIFTH ANGEL is far and away Green's best work. And, though you'll be sorry to see the book end, its conclusion is surprisingly satisfying. If you've never read Green before, THE FIFTH ANGEL is the one to start with.

What would you do?

A mans life has fallen apart. His wife has left him, his daughter is in a mental hospital- unable to speak or function anywhere close to a normal level. Life is passing him by, and he is still confronted with daily reminders of the tragedy that took everything from him. He feels responsible. The legal system doesnt work, so he decides to take matters into his own hands.
Tim Green has crafted a novel that will make the reader ask some serious questions. What would you do if your child were abducted, molested and then left catatonic in a mental hospital? What would you do if you knew that the man responsible was getting out of prison early? What would you do if you has the means and the knowledge to stop some of the twisted preadators that stalk the streets looking for children to torture and destroy?
Jack Ruskin, the main charachter in this new novel, has decided upon a course of action in order to atone for his failings (he feels) as a father and his inability to prevent the abduction and molestation if his own daughter. He is a high priced attorney who deals with criminals everyday. He knows the mistakes that they make when a crime is committed. He knows how the police conduct an investigation, what they look for, how they find it and who is called in.
Is it murder? Is he an avenging angel of death come to deal out destruction to those that would prey upon the innocent? Is he a saint? or a sinner? Sane, or is he just as unstable and guilty as those that he punishes? Thats for the readed to decide.
Either way, this book will make to look into the helplessness of a father and the galvanizing power of guilt. Vengance is a funny concept, really. At what point does murder become justified? How far will one father go to get his girl back and escape the spectres that continue to haunt his life?
The Fifth Angel is a well written, quick-paced book with plenty of action and suspense. Although the charachters in the book seem a bit two-dimensional, it is still worth reading and pondering. What would you do? We get a sense of how the world can continue to fly by and yet, for those dealing with greif, seem to come to a complete standstill. Unable to focus on anything other than revenge, how far will Jack go in order to see that justice is dealt? He becomes a man obsessed, determined to destroy the man who shattered his little girl.
Tim Green has written an engaging piece of fiction that will pull that the heartstrings of that that read it. As the pages fly by, we get a sense of Jacks determination, desperation and cycle of self destruction as it teeters on the brink. Read this book, think about the scenarios that it presents and then ask youself the same question... What would you do?

Was Herodotus's account of the Amazons fact or fiction? Archaeologist Jeannine Davis-Kimball, in Warrior Women, an account of her digs at burial sites of Eurasian nomads, finds it an embellishment of the former. But, she posits, women's place in that world was generally more exalted than previously thought.

Nearly one-quarter of the women buried in some late Iron Age sites were either warriors or priestesses. Even the remainder, "hearth women," were important players in the tribes' surprisingly egalitarian societies. Further, southern Kazakhstan's famous "gold man" was in fact, a "gold woman." Davis-Kimball also finds solid evidence of "high status" women in graves as far east as China and as far west as Ireland.

Warrior Women is, thankfully, free of lazy sensationalism. But it is frustratingly organized, with little regard to either chronology or geography. Further, Davis-Kimball never places her finds in any sort of context, be it popular or scholarly. --H. O'Billovitch

A general tour of the Silk Road...

Jeannine Davis-Kimball tells us about her adventures in exploring women's roles in ancient Eurasia through archaeological sites, Greek and Roman legends and how the people of the steppe tribes live now. She moves across the land with the speed of thought, from the mummies of China to the warrior queens of Erie. Woman were nurturers, warriors and leaders (and still are in Mongolia) sharing both power and responsible within the tribes. I think the best part about the book is not only showing that women were sometimes in charge but that men within these societies were also nurturers and shared with the daily chores. Maybe both men and women were just too busy with life to worry about sexism and gender issues. Maybe sexism is a byproduct of progress?
The book covers alot but doesn't get bogged with too much detail. Very much up-to-date information. I don't think I agree with one or two points but it's an enjoyable book to read.

A Fascinating Account of the Search for Women Warriors

This is a fascinating book written by an equally fascinating woman. After raising six children and working as a nurse in Idaho and cattle rancher in South America, Dr. Jeannine Davis-Kimball went back to school and earned a bachelor's degree in art history from California State University at Northridge at 49, becoming the first woman in her family to obtain a degree. Her interest in past civilizations motivated her to obtain a master's degree and then a Ph.D., and when she went on an archealogical dig in Israel for a "lark," she discovered her true life's passion.

Her book is certainly no dry technical dissertation on archeological finds! Dr. Davis-Kimball is a gifted writer who knows how to tell a story and convey a bit of history, anthropology, and her own observations of human behavior in a very entertaining manner. Her book reads like a novel with an interesting storyline and detailed character descriptions of the people who accompany her on her explorations, as well as the nomads she lives with and studies. When she begins her career as an archeaologist, she notes that the western views of ancient peoples have relegated women to motherhood and tending the household. She finds that her learned colleagues are quick to characterize graves with weapons as male, something she begins to dispute in light of Russian evidence that there were once women warriors in the nomadic tribes. Dr. Davis-Kimball's research eventually proves this fact and she takes the reader along in the caravans of trucks she and her group take to remote locations in Russia and China where they camp weeks on-end like nomads themselves, digging in temperatures that soar above 100 degrees during the day and below freezing at night. Much of her research incorporates the cultures of the nomadic tribes that still wander Siberia and Asia today, as their traditions and way of living is virtually the same as centuries ago, and she was fortunate to be welcomed into the tribal group and allowed to participate in tribal rituals as well as their daily life.

Along with the story of her excavations and stays with nomadic tribes, she includes sidebars throughout the book on various topics from the Sheila-na-gigs and women warriors of Celtic Ireland to the status of prostitutes in ancient Greece. The book is a celebration and proof that women have indeed been warriors and priestesses and held positions of power and influence throughout history, and then as times changed, been relegated to less important roles or executed for trying to exert themselves as warriors.

Dr. Jeannine Davis-Kimball discovers her passion for archaelogy late in life and desires to excavate the Kurgans of the Eurasian people. When fellow archaeologist Leonid Yablonsky invites her to join an American-Russian team working at Pokrovka on the Russian-Kazakstan border, she gets her chance. As the dig progresses, Davis-Kimball, Yablonsky and the rest of the team unearth the remains of male warriors, men buried with children, warrior women, priestesses, warrior-priestesses, and hearth women. The roles of these ancient individuals are assigned based on the grave goods buried with them. Dr. Davis Kimball writes: "It could not have been more fortuitous for me that the Early Nomads believed their possessions had to be included in their graves." This is the focus point of the book. Starting with the finds at Pokrovka, Dr. Davis-Kimball follows every possible thread in time and space, to give us as complete as possible a picture of the Eurasian people in general and the lives of the women in particular--not just the warrior women, but the priestesses and hearth women as well.
Dr. Davis-Kimball states that the Indiana Jones myth of archaeology must be dispelled, and then she goes on a series of travels and adventures (all wonderfully written) that would have daunted even that fictional hero, who I don't think could have faced the KGB with the intelligence and patience she does. Her travels take her from Northern Ireland to western China. She travels in history from about 4000 B.C.E. to the modern day. She visits dozens of museums, many countries, and even lives with a modern day family of nomads.
It seems that Dr. Davis-Kimball was motivated to write a book about women, and specifically about warrior women, only after she realized that warrior women's graves had been excavated for over 50 years by other archaeologists, and then the women were all but forgotten. She writes:"I was frustrated by the lack of interest exhibited by many historians and archaeologists regarding the status of women in the societies they studied." And: "I understood that women of high status were hidden in the shadows of traditional interpretations. It was time to launch a treasure hunt." Her gift to the world is to simply tell the truth about what she, and others, have discovered.
For those who saw the NOVA documentary about "The Mysterious Mummies of China", (the caucasoid mummies discovered in China's Xinjiang province), Dr. Davis-Kimball was invited to be part of that documentary team, and there is an excellent chapter in her book that tells the story behind the documentary.
Dr. Davis-Kimball is gracious in giving credit to others. There must be several hundred names in this book of the people she has worked with, or whose work she has studied. There is even a touch of romance as she writes praisingly of her husband (an engineer) who was part of the team at Pokrovka, and who accompanies her in her numerous travels.
And finally, this book was an inspiration, that growing old does not mean growing stale, and that, even late in life, a person can become what he or she truly wishes to be.
Equal parts archaeology, adventure, autobiography, travelogue, this is history at it's readable best.

Even though Harry Bosch is nowhere to be found, Connelly has written his best book to date. In the past, Connelly's leads have been in law enforcement. His new protagonist, Cassie Black, is an ex-con who needs to make one more score in order to fulfill the dream that sustained her in prison. The first part of the novel follows a Mission Impossible-style crime. Something happens during this caper that propels the rest of the book as Cassie is relentlessly pursued by Jack Karch, a ruthless investigator for a casino who leaves no witnesses alive. Cassie has a secret that she will protect at all costs, and while this secret is obvious, other aspects of this fast-paced thriller are surprising indeed. In astrology, a void moon is considered bad luck, but Connelly's Void Moon is better than a four-leaf clover. Highly recommended.

Another fast pace good read!

I really enjoy his non bosch books. Sometimes its good to be in the gray areas of crimes and the good reasons used to fuel bad deeds. If you like Connelly you will enjoy Cassie Black and The Void Moon. Getcha pull!!!Hellyeah!!!

More gravy for the brain!

Wow. I've been slowly catching up on Connelly's older novels as I was "late" to the dance and only discovered him around 2002 or so. This guy can certainly spin a yarn. Here he has us taking sides with one crook over another. Talk about a departure from the Harry Bosch police procedural stereotype! Wonderful novel. My review is actually for the unabrided audiobook on cassette tape but Amazon doesn't list the title so I'm writing it here. Great performance by LJ Ganser. He did good with the female inflection and later in the audio performance he did great with the little girl's voice inflection. These little things made the audio performance really shine in the world of audiobooks. Fantastic! I'm a fan of the Harry Bosch series but some of my very favorite Connelly novels are departures FROM the series. Like this one, for example. Oh yeah, and Blood Work too. Gravy for the brain!

New kind of medical book

This is a different kind of medical book from any I've ever looked at. The rest are predominantly lists and checklists, and dull as well. This one not only dispenses very helpful advice but gets inside the heads of children who have these conditions, their parents, and explains theory and practice behind the medical specialty itself. Some of the anecdotes about how non-specialists can botch treatment are shocking. Some if it is also quite funny. Also, it's nice to read a book by doctors who still clearly love the practice of medicine and doing good for people, in spite of all the changes that have happened to the profession in recent years. This book should make many lives better and even save some.

I agree with the other reviewers this is things I already know and have heard over and over. I was looking for something with more of a natural approach and this is not that. So if that's what you have in mind(natural approach) do not buy this book.

One of the better books on this subject

This is one of the better books on this topic. They prefer that you see an allergy specialist rather than a GP."The incidence of food allergy is much higher for children than for adjutls - 8 percent of those under three, and rising." The author claims that adults have outgrown food allergies which lowers it to 2% for the general population. The best part of the book was where he told parents if other people don't consider you "neurotic" then you are not being vigilant enough protecting your allergic child. The only "fault" the book may have is there is nothing offered as a reasonable cause for the epidemic of food allergies. Science can now look at live blood, we have so much research that has been done, but no one really knows what causes food allergies? Why is it that undeveloped countries have almost no food allergies?
