Fascinating, Literate, and Well Researched
By Dan Bogaty
TEXAS CRIME CHRONICLES is a collection of crime related articles that appeared in Texas Monthly Magazine between 1976 and 1998. Among the varied subjects are dog fighting, murder, bank robbery, mass murder, forgery of collectibles, gambling, and many more. Some of the better known cases include those of Tower Sniper Charles Whitman (among the weaker of the book's articles, in my opinion); Wanda Holloway, the cheerleader mom who tried to take out a contract on her daughter's rival; and no book on Texas Crime would be complete without a chapter on David Graham and Diane Zamora who committed what has to be the stupidest intentional murder ever. One of the articles I found most interesting was one on Charles Albright, a mini-serial killer and renaissance-man-type sociopath.
This is a very readable book full of well written and, for their length, surprisingly in depth articles, and it is obvious that Texas Monthly is a quality publication. This book was a gift to me from my friend in Lubbock. I thank her for it and highly recommend it.

Don't commit a crime in Texas
By B. Ryan
"Texas Crime Chronicles" is a must-read true crime book about the more newsworthy crimes which took place in Texas over recent years. There are 17 fascinating stories written by various writers and reporters. My favorites include the Diane Zamora/David Graham cadet murderers; the cheerleader mom Wanda Holloway; and Charles Whitman, the sniper in the tower. You will enjoy each story if you are a true crime fan; if you're not a true crime fan, you might become one after reading this book.

Patty Albanowski Had No Idea That She Was Walking Into A Lethal Trap!
By SETH WALTON
Some of the stories in this book are boring but the majority of them are excellent. My favorite one is THE GIRL, THE CON MAN, AND THE MASSAGE PARLOR KING. Sam Corey and Claude Giesick took advantage of a lonely woman, Patty Albanowski. They saw her as an easy target for murder that would result in a nice little insurance policy payout if they made her death look like an accident. They almost got away with it. I always wonder why it never occurred to Patty that something was up almost from the moment that she and her new husband arrived in New Orleans (where the murder occurred). 1. Claude checked them into a Ramada Inn miles away from the hot spots of the Big Easy. 2 . He never took Patty out anywhere prior to when he and Sam killed her. 3. Prior to the murder, Claude left Patty all alone in their motel room while he made a number of mysterious trips out into the city. He never gave his wife a reasonable explanation of where he had been during these mysterious disappearances. Tell me, seriously, if you were Patty Albanowski, would you get suspicious or not?
