From Library Journal
Benton (Lions Don't Need To Roar, Warner, 1992) has interviewed over 100 CEOs for this commonsense self-guide to the executive suite and interwoven their salient thoughts throughout her book. There are no mechanistic, murky theories here. Benton opens with 22 "vital traits," including being honest, detail-oriented, gutsy, and humorous, which are analogous to climbing tiers on a terraced mountain. She then describes the best route to the CEO spot, what to expect when you get there, and what you will do. Benton's guide deserves a reading, either to energize or reenergize the harried executive or new MBA.?Joan A. Traugott, Amityville, P.L., N.Y.

Review
"Good advice for the aspiring executive."

-- USA Today

From the Back Cover
Drawing on in-depth interviews with hundreds of the nation's top executives, D. A. Benton explains the 22 vital traits that make a CEO - the leader responsible for making decisions, guiding teams, selling ideas, managing crises, and conquering the mountains before them. You'll penetrate the mystery of why some people make it to the top and some don't, when they're all equally good at their jobs. You'll learn how to avoid getting fired and how to get promoted more quickly, how to enjoy the quality of life you want and deserve, and - if you decide you want to be the Big Boss - how to have the right character traits to get there. These are some of the traits that make a CEO. Are you ready to make them yours? You're gutsy and a little wild - yet modest and in control. You're competitive and tenacious - yet flexible and generous. You're willing to admit mistakes - yet unapologetic. You're secure in yourself - yet constantly improving. You're original and straightforward - yet think before you talk. Make your ascent not only gratifying, but also exhilarating and fun. This is how chiefs run the show - and how you can act like a chief to become a chief, even sooner than you dreamed.

By Robert Morris
According to D.A. Benton, there are 22 "vital traits" which one needs to develop fully. In How to Think Like A CEO, she examines each of them in detail while providing numerous examples of the success they have helped others to achieve.
The mountain-climbing metaphor she invokes is especially apt. In a Darwinian sense, the "fittest" climbers are those who have the necessary training and equipment, of course, but also certain personal qualities (especially tenacity, composure, self-discipline, and endurance) which enable them to reach the desired "summit", whatever and wherever it may be. Most limits in life are self-imposed. Stated another way, many people under-estimate what they can accomplish while exaggerating the difficulty of achieving whatever they may desire.
In How to Think Like A CEO, Benton observes that in all her years of mountain climbing, "more critical than the summit is the internal knowledge you gain; how to deal with your own internal fears; how to be intuitive and humble and aware of every detail; and how to live fully. And most important, I've learned my goal is not just to climb up the mountains, but to give back to them." This she does by sharing so much of what she has learned.
Few who read this book will become a CEO. I suspect that few CEOs will read it. (I may be wrong about that.) Other books on the subject of leadership are far more profound. (Warren Bennis wrote many of them.) In my opinion, How to Think Like a CEO has substantial value because it enables its readers to take stock of their personal as well as professional strengths and weaknesses in correlation with the strengths of some of the world's most successful CEOs. Completing such an exercise is obviously not all that an ambitious person needs to succeed...but it can be a starting point, and perhaps a reality check from time to time later as a career develops.

You will will still have to think for yourself
By Texas Techie
Ms. Benton is a top-tier image consultant, and the first book of hers I read was Lion's Don't Need to Roar. That was a great book about projecting the "right" image. I decided to read this book because I wanted to hear her insights about the successful CEOs she has worked with.

The book presents a lot of interesting information. Twenty-two vital traits are enough to cover just about every trait, but some might be more vital than others. Obviously, any book written by a consultant to the rich and powerful has to be weighed by the need not to bite the hand that feeds you. Nevertheless, I enjoyed reading the anecdotes, and I always like to hear positive things about those who occupy the seats of power (mainly because I hope that good people do get ahead).

But as far as climbing the mountain of successs by learning to think like a CEO, the caption for chapter six probably sums it up nicely: "every climber is different, and it's important for you to understand those differences." Reading history is not the same as making history. Hey, and writing book reviews isn't the same as writing books, either!

This is a good book to read on airplane trips, but don't expect it to be your master plan for taking over the world. You will still have to think for yourself and do your own heavy lifting.

Solid perspective.
By William A. Ricardi
Forget the people who claim that this book is a rehash. They need to read it again and stop skimming chapter titles and skipping pages. Yes, a lot of this material is covered in other leadership books. There are basics that every reader of this type of book simply has to know. The author can't assume that they know, so she presents the basics.
Buy this book for the unique content: The quotes. Real quotes from real CEO's. Dozens of real life examples of what goes on in the life and in the mind of the man (or woman) at the top.
If you want to see what motivates a CEO, it's in this book. If you want to see what a day in the life of a CEO is like, it's in this book. If you want to see how a CEO handles pressure situations, it's in this book.
The quotes alone are worth the 10 to 15 bucks. The easy, specific examples of things that you can say and do to improve your situation at work are just a bonus.
As a small business owner, I would like to thank Debra for helping me to bridge the gap between my home business and my career. This book showed me how the skills that I developed as an entrepreneur could be applied to my consulting job.
What prevented the book from being 5 stars? Author self reference. I realize that 'Lions Don't Need To Roar' is a great book, and cross promotion is all the rage, but borrowing the bulk of entire chapters from 'Lions' is a bit much.
Still, a great read.

Amazon.com Review
The "Sex and the City" columnist for the New York Observer documents the social scene of modern-day Manhattan. The reader gets an introduction to "Modelizers," the men who only have eyes for models, as well as a more common species, the "Toxic Bachelor." Reading like a society novel gone downtown and askew, Sex and the City is a comically sordid look at status and ambition and the many characters consumed by the sexual politics of the '90s.

From Publishers Weekly
"We're leading sensory saturated lives," announces jetsetting photographer and playboy Peter Beard in a roundtable discussion of menages a trois, setting the tone of opulent debasement that suffuses this collection of Bushnell's punchy, archly knowing and sharply observed sex columns from the New York Observer. Prowling the modish clubs, party circuit and weekend getaways of rich and trendy New York society (most of whose denizens are identified by pseudonyms), Bushnell offers a brash, radically unromantic perspective. She visits a sex club and dates a Bicycle Boy ("the literary romantic subspecies" whose patron saints are George Plimpton and Murray Kempton). But in most chapters she keeps to the sidelines, deploying instead her alter-ego Carrie (like the author, a blonde writer from Connecticut in her mid-30s), whose sweet if feckless romance with Mr. Big?a nondescript power player?serves as a foil for the hilarious, unsentimentalized misadventures of her peers. These include model-chasers like Barkley, 25, a painter with the face of a Botticelli angel whose parents pay for his SoHo junior loft, and Tom Peri, the "emotional Mayflower," who ferries newly dumped women to higher emotional ground and is then invariably dumped. The effect is that of an Armistead Maupin-like canvas tinged with a liberal smattering of Judith Krantz. Collected in one volume, Bushnell's characters grow generic, but in small doses these essays are brain candy that will appeal equally to urban romantics and anti-romantics.

A disarmingly candid, greatly superificial, and charmingly quirky book
By Tom Benton
As someone who recently discovered (and became addicted to) HBO's delightful series "Sex and the City," it was inevitable that I'd wind up investigating Candace Bushnell's book. Bushnell's book is the collected form of the column she wrote for years before TV writer Darren Star turned it into a hit television series. Ironically, though Bushnell's book probably wouldn't get anywhere near as much attention if it weren't for the TV series, it's because of the TV series that it appears so many readers have had a foul reaction to the book. It's true that those expecting the TV show on paper are bound to be disappointed, probably in a big way, because Bushnell's "Sex and the City" doesn't have a lot in common with the show.

For the most part, the book does revolve around Carrie Bradshaw (a thinly-disguised alter-ego for Bushnell, with even the same initials), a thirty-something columnist in New York. Miranda Hobbes does show up a few times during the first half of the book, though she's not a lawyer. Samantha Jones is not a PR agent nor such a nymphomaniac as she was in the show. And Charlotte is a British woman, whose TV counterpart appeared at the beginning of the series' pilot episode. Stanford Blatch, Carrie's successful homosexual friend, is the only character who remains virtually the same, though here he's a screenwriter. Many of the same situations presented throughout the show pop up in the book, such as Stanford's obsession with his model "protege," the torment of the baby shower, and "modelizers." And those who loved Chris Noth's Mr. Big needn't worry. Big is a major character in the book and is just as adorable (and even less rambunctious) as he was in the show, though the outcome of he and Carrie's relationship is different in the book than in the show.

Bushnell's columns were meant more as musings on the life of single women in New York, and often single men as well, than as a linear narrative. Thus it's surprising that her writings work so well as a book. She has a very cute, quirky, innocent style of writing, and that's a big part of what makes her book such a blast. However Bushnell offers little insight into what any of the characters are actually feeling, and rightly so: it just accents their appalling and, frankly, upsetting superficiality. The dating scene in Manhattan is a hellish world where all that matters is sex, money, fashion, and drugs. Bushnell is obviously deeply involved in this world, and it's her knowledge of it, along with her characters' candid musings, that kept me reading.

In the end, those expecting the HBO series in a book are going to be very disappointed. Those expecting something resembling the HBO series will probably be let down as well. The book and the series are designed for two different worlds - while the show tended to have a sweet optimism to it, Bushnell writes with the same sort of dreamy, hopeful cynicism that one would find in a Bret Easton Ellis book. However, those who would rather read the book than incessently compare it with the show may enjoy it. I recommend Candace Bushnell's "Sex and the City" to those who are younger and looking for a fun, unusual, honest read.

Even if you've seen the show...read the book!
By Schtinky
Have you ever sat in a coffee shop or your hometown's shopping mall, catching snippets of juicy conversations as they pass by you? $eXz In The City, the book, is just like that only better.

In SITC, you get to listen to the snippets of the rich and famous, the ultimately wealthy, and the downright notorious; something you don't get at home.

Though built upon shallow ideals, the characters are anything but shallow; they are witty, charming, self-centered, goal-orientated, and real. The storyline, though it is told in fragments not unlike a diary that many people have written in, manages to stay smooth and yet spontaneous in its wandering courses.

Both the Cable Show and the book stem from a column Candace Bushnell started writing for The New York Observer back in 1994, where she decided to remove the sentimental value from relationships and mating rituals and replace it with a healthy, well needed injection of sardonic humor. Thanks to Ms. Bushnell, we have such wonderful glimpses into this taboo subject like "The M&M's", "The Modelizers", "Psycho Moms", "Bicycle Boys", "Dweebs, Nerds, and Losers", "Comparison Shopping", "The Nanny Camera", and many more.

SITC is a wonderfully fun, kick-back-and-relax kind of book; a lively and fun story that reminds you not to take yourself so seriously all the time. I highly recommend it for a lazy afternoon or a sunny day at the beach. Enjoy!

The age of Un-innocence indeed!
By CoffeeGurl
'Sex and the City' is fun to read and entertaining. The characters' lives are so outrageous that your life seems dull and predictable in comparison. I love the topics: the toxic bachelors; the guys who date models; threesomes; and the four city girls, including "Carrie", visiting married women in Conneticut and enjoying themselves, to their surprise.
The book is mainly focused on Carrie and her boyfriend, "Mr. Big." I love the HBO series based on this book, but the book tells us a different story of love and dating in New York. The book is as fun and as outrageous as the HBO series. A fun read!

What should we do when our chores demand more hours than we have available? Call in Rulnick and Schneider, the women we love to hate, for month-by-month "containerization" strategies. Introductory chapters may ask and answer such generic questions as "How tired is your decor?" but the meat of the book is in the January-through-December guide. Each month contains a one-step-at-a-time checklist, a quiz, organizing tips (ASAP wardrobe basics or eight ways to discover your loved one), plus a scattering of recipes (such as potato boats and baked caramel corn). In between, tidbits enliven the read, whether it's a discussion of the beginning of official Mother's Day celebrations or a lead on a Web site that teaches visitors all about furniture. If the dozen sections seem too formidable, there's some breathing space at the end--retro party drinks, stocking the pantry shelves, how to play Bunco, and way too many lists. For women who have a love-hate relationship with all things that clutter. Barbara Jacobs

From Christmas to Income Taxes
By Arctic Voice Earl
This is a book that can be of help to frantic folks, both female and male. I first heard of it around the Christmas holiday, and it was helpful in sorting out the growing number of tasks that my wife Chris and I want to do, and to do that during the absence of the sun in our home town of Barrow, Alaska.

For example, maintaining and updating the Christmas card list is always important, but especially in the far north where blizzards and other weather can slow even the postal service.

Baking ahead is also important, because our one general store can run out of key ingredients just when you need them.

The authors also include the spiritual focus on Christmas, and hints at low-tech, low-cost ways to share the real meaning of Christmas with friends and family.

This practical, easy-to-read book continues with tips and approaches to chores and the like by month through the year, including -"Tax Time."

Also a growing concern - "The responsibility of caring for aging relatives."--including "Be respectful of their needs and wants" There is a tradition among the Inupiat Eskimo people of taking very good care of the elders, and respecting them. When we all become "aging relatives," we'll certainly want that, so let's give it now.

And let's not forget pets --dogs, cats, hamsters and more

The book includes "Planning a neighborhood dog show"

Here in Barrow, we'd have a lot of Huskies and even some sled dogs, but it would be fun!

A great book to read, from Barrow to Key West. Enjoy!

Earl

A boon for the organizationally challenged
By Linda Johnson Tomsho
My first thought upon picking up this book was that I was NOT frantic... just sort of continuously running at a low level of mild panic. I decided to give it a chance, and I'm glad I did. I was afraid this book would lecture me about being a perfect wife and mother (ha ha ha), but I found this was not the case at all. Instead of coming off like My Mom, I got a definite "girlfriend vibe" from the authors. For someone like me, the habit of planning ahead to avoid being overwhelmed later on is something utterly foreign and has to be learned. I'm one of those people who loves concise little tips - easier for me to digest and remember - and I've found the tips in the book to be very helpful and creative. Though my children are mostly grown now, I still have a lot of challenges for running my household and my life in general. I got the book at the beginning of 2005, and I think there is hope for me. I'm not quite ready to do "Christmas in July," but I think with the help of the Frantic Women I may actually get it done on time in December for a change!

I love the Internet, but over time I have tended to visit the same "old" sites. This book, 1001 Incredible Things to Do on the Internet, has re-invigorated me. Even though I'm an "old pro" on the Net, I found stuff in this book that I never knew existed. I don't think I'll need those search engines anymore!

Amazon.com Review
When Calvin Jeffries's body is found in the courthouse parking garage, eyes widen and horrified tongues wag. The fact that Jeffries was a thoroughly reprehensible human being doesn't detract from the notoriety of the first murder of a sitting Oregon judge. Defense attorney extraordinaire Joe Antonelli has a long history with Jeffries. Years ago the judge threw him into jail for contempt in a vain attempt to deter Antonelli from winning yet another case. But one of Antonelli's colleagues suffered even more. As the curious Antonelli pieces together fragments of the legendary judge's past, he discovers that Jeffries apparently drove Elliott Winston insane, had him committed, and married his wife. If only Elliott weren't still securely in the psychiatric hospital, what a sterling suspect he'd make!

But the police find the killer, a homeless man with the murder weapon and a willingness to confess, who promptly commits suicide after being taken into custody. The legal community breathes a sigh of relief--until a second judge is murdered in the same manner. When another homeless man is arrested, Antonelli's "bizarre coincidence" antennae start to quiver, and he offers his services to the defendant. So convinced is he of Danny's innocence that he plunges undercover into the vagrant's world, searching for evidence of a setup. But his discoveries seem to point directly to the impossible--for how could Elliott Winston, safely tucked behind bars, be the murderer?

At some point during The Judgment (the exact moment will vary according to individual tolerance), you may find yourself putting the book aside and picking up an Elmore Leonard for an emergency infusion of quality dialogue. Along with everyone with whom he comes in contact, Antonelli suffers from an apparent speech impediment that usually makes him sound like a particularly pompous 19th-century pundit.

When author D.W. Buffa lets his courtroom savvy take center stage, the novel moves along briskly (even though Antonelli takes some rather remarkable legal liberties, it's all in good fun). The subplot involving the return of Antonelli's high-school sweetheart, however, feels less integral than afterthought-ish. Though Buffa tries to tie everything together at the end with a heavily contrived twist that probably set O. Henry yawning in his grave, the novel's final note isn't one of ringing irony. It's more like a dull thud. --Kelly Flynn

From Publishers Weekly
Inventing a perfectly odious victim and an obvious killer with the perfect alibi, Buffa cooks up a convoluted legal thriller littered with plot-twist land mines that explode when least expected. Toss in a poignant midlife romance and an innocent, put-upon defendant, and you have a novel with wide appeal. So few people grieve when loathsome circuit judge Calvin Jeffries is stabbed to death and gutted in the courthouse parking garage that it comes as a shock when the confessed killer is revealed to be a homeless man with no apparent ties to the victim. When a second sharp-tongued judge is killed the same way in the same spot, the cops call it a copycat killing and arrest a retarded homeless man on an anonymous tip, finding him with the murder weapon. Seasoned defense attorney Joseph Antonelli, himself a particularly maligned target of the venomous Jeffries, is persuaded to take the case and becomes convinced that both murders were planned by the same brilliant criminal one Antonelli is particularly familiar with, since the man once shot him. Antonelli's investigator, disbarred lawyer and recovering alcoholic Howard Flynn, sees his own dead son in the retarded defendant and throws himself wholeheartedly into the case. Unfortunately, Antonelli's suspect has been in the state home for the criminally insane for the past 12 years and could not possibly have committed the crimes. Meanwhile, bachelor Antonelli's high school sweetheart re-enters his life after a bout with manic depression and a rough divorce. Buffa (The Prosecution) once again produces a fast-spinning tale that jolts and veers enticingly off-track, but always stays comfortably in sight of the main objective. Well-developed characters and the rich Portland, Ore., milieu add depth to this excellent thriller. Agent, Wendy Sherman. Major ad/ promo; author tour; audio.

From Library Journal
Buffa served as a defense attorney before he became a writer and has a brilliant grasp of the legal process. The Judgment is a thrilling book about the perfect crime, which simultaneously entertains and informs. Two judges are murdered just weeks apart. They seem to be open-and-shut cases involving random acts of violence until attorney Joseph Antonelli manages to uncover a suspect who links the two, a suspect who seems above the law. Reader Dennis Predovic dramatizes this devious trail of obsession and retribution with increasing urgency as the plot builds to a resolution. In sum, it's a superb recording, recommended to mystery lovers everywhere. James L. Dudley, Westhampton, NY

should we or should we not trust the reviewers
By J. Janko
It's been a year since I have read the Judgment and I have just finished reading his next book, Legacy. I wasn't much thrilled with either book and was all the more surprised to see the 5 stars or 4 stars reviews written for both books. Then I noticed that most of the reviews come from reviewers very highly rated by the Amazon.com website. Even the #1 reviewer Harriet Klausner was thrilled with the book. I wondered whether there was something wrong with my opinion, but then I read Harriet's little autobiography. It says, among other things: "I am a speed reader ( a gift I was born with) and read two books a day." Therein lies the problem. The speedreader understands that modern fiction is obsessed with unnecessary details. (oh no, here comes the preaching (-; ). Modern fiction seeks to provide descriptions of every room a hero enters, every piece of clothing the hero might wear, every street address the hero might drive to, etc. A speedreader knows and skips ahead to the relevant stuff. That is what one must do to enjoy Buffa's Judgment and Legacy. That is what one cannot possibly dare to do when reading Buffa's Defense and Prosecution.
The fact of the matter is that the Judgment is an adequate thriller; it is your run-of-the-mill paperback that you throw out after reading or take back to your nearest used bookstore. And that is how first time readers of Buffa will react to it. But those familiar with Buffa's earlier work have been captured by his careful characterizations and his social studies - writing that doesn't waste a word, will be disappointed, to say the least. Buffa's first two books are shorter, to the point and cannot be speedread (much like speedreading Kafka's Metamorphoses would defeat the purpose of reading it - just an example). Thus, unless you are an avid reader that knows how to avoid useless descriptions, read Judgment with proper reservations - or better yet, read Buffa's first two books instead. I must agree with the "Did We All Read The Same Book?, June 9, 2001" review and the "not buffa's best, December 29, 2001" review - they are reviews of those who have read Buffa's other works and who are disappointed by Buffa's new bad habits.

Buffa's Boffo!!!!
By John R. Linnell
This is the third book this author has written and I have read and very much enjoyed them all. He is without peer in describing courtroom action and the dialogue is spot on, both in it's literary quality and it's legal accuracy. This is an interesting mix of love and revenge which finds Attorney Joseph Atonelli right in the center of the whirlwind. It starts with the funeral of Judge Calvin Jefferies, one of the vilest human beings to ever ascend the bench. Fittingly enough the good judge has died in a way that brings some joy to those he has mistreated during his career - he has been murdered in a knife attack - and for good measure he is disembowled, or as Antonelli points out in a question to a witness - "You mean he was gutted?"
The killer is arrested based on an anonymous tip that he would be found "under the bridge" where the homeless live. He confesses to the crime and a short while later he is found dead in his cell - an apparant suicide. Not long after that his successor is also murdered in a knife attack and another tip is recieved that the murderer can be found "under the bridge" in the homeless community. Sure enough, the police find a young homeless man with a knife that has the victim's blood on it. It is the defense of this accused person that provides Antonelli with the biggest challenge of his career and you will just have to get the book to see how this is woven into a plot which will keep you reading to the end and sorry when it is reached.

"Antonelli...clever, skilled & awesome - a man for all seasons
By Russell A. Rohde MD
"The Judgment", Dudley W. Buffa, NY, Warner Books, 2001 ISBN 0-446-52737-8, HC, 418 pg., 9 1/4" x 6 1/4".

This 3rd Joesph Antonelli novel finds the protagonist defense attorney ruminating about the evil nature of Judge Calvin Jeffries, a man recently murdered & whose funeral is in session. Afterwards, Antonelli is beseiged to reveal his personal legal encounters with Judge Jeffries by columnist Harper Bryce & Jeffries' associates Asa Bartram & Jonah. Antonelli delves into the Larkin case -- a court appointment to defend Mrs. Janet Larkin against charges of incestous sex with son Gerald since age 7, in the courtoom of Judge Jeffries. Here, Antonelli is found guilty of contempt of court!

He recalls the Judge's widow Jean Jeffries had been the wife of former partner, Elliot Winston, the latter charged with attempted murder, judged insane, & locked up. When Judge Quincy Griswald is stabbed & eviscerated, Antonelli defends a young abused suspect & discovers similarities in the deaths of both judges what implies a mastermind. The storyline continues at fast pace & is interwoven with the love story of Jennifer, who'd "married badly, divorced well", his live-in true love with marriage in the offing but undercut with a cluster of headaches...

We have accountings of intrigues: -- infidelity, jealousy, & lust for power. The novel is well-written, full of suspense & has a full cargo of colorful characters. The courtroom drama is relentless & supercharged. This 3rd Antonelli saga follows "The Defense" & "The Prosecution."

From Publishers Weekly
One day, TV talk show host O'Donnell (Kids Are Punny), aka Rosie, impulsively left a phone message for a pregnant, 14-year-old girl, whose tragic story of rape she had learned about at the New Jersey adoption agency she funds. Within days, the girl, Stacie, called back. Rosie introduced herself and offered to help the girl in any way she could. "And as I said those words, it was like a shell breaking open or a bird coming out," writes O'Donnell. "I said hello and a crack came, and we all fell in, straight into looking-glass land." What follows is an enormously powerful story about the mystery of identity, about how forces strong enough to shatter one person can make another shine like a diamond. Rosie chronicles her increasingly obsessive phone and e-mail relationship with a poor, broken kid who comes to show her that beneath her gifts of humor, fame, money and even love, she is still the child who lost her mother and is calling out to her. But what makes this brief book extraordinary by any standard is that it captures the way a core self, a true I, can appear in the midst of the most broken life. In the kind of lean, clean, witty prose that comes only with complete honesty, Rosie imparts some unexpected truths. Readers will come away persuaded that the road of obsessiveness can sometimes lead to the palace of wisdom, that faith and grace are real. Those who declare this merely a sexual "coming-out" story (there are passing references to dating a woman and to Rosie's partner, Kelli) need a heart and brain transplant. Here, Rosie offers us an unsentimental and utterly real tale about the power of love. (One-day laydown, Apr. 16)

She once was lost, but now she's found
By JGC
"Find Me" is the rocky journey of movie star, talk show host, comedienne, mother, activist and my personal shero; Rosie O'Donnell. This is not the typical celebrity autobiography. Because, I'm sure by now you've figured out that Rosie isn't the typical celebrity. Instead, "Find Me" is a poignant tale of self-acceptance and is a story of both tragedy and triumph.

Rosie discusses intimately how she felt after her mother's devastating death. And how this effected her entire life. After she hit it big you would think that everything ended up happily ever after? Not so. In Rosie's world all that glitters isn't gold. Even after she becomes a big star she still has her crosses to carry.

Along the way, Rosie adopts her first child; a son. She also meets a very troubled woman that parallels Rosie's own life. Rosie ponders why she turned out rich and famous while her friend is battling a serious mental disorder.

"Find Me" like its author is truthful, unconventional, compassionate and incredibly riveting. Rosie is able to bring the reader in to her world, if only for a few moments because she is so fascinating and descriptive in her writings.

I was surprised that this book did not discuss Rosie's sexuality. (There was some vague hints but that was about it.) Because, I remember when the book was released Rosie also "came out" at the same time to her fans and TV audience. But I learned that "Find Me" is not about whom she goes to bed with or chooses to love. Instead, it is a triumphant story that describes how and why she became the sheroic woman of today. "Find Me" taught me a lot more, too. It taught me the importance of love and acceptance of others. And, it also taught me the importance of being and having a good parent because Rosie's childhood was ripped apart with the loss of her mother.

I am ashamed to admit, I used to despise Rosie O'Donnell. I listened to all the garbage cable news programs that were only too eager to drag her name through the mud for their own gain. But after I read Rosie's book and started hearing what she had to say (on her blog and when she was on The View) I learned that the real Ro, as she likes to be called, has zero resemblance to the nut the media tries to portray as her.

I can't wait for Ro's next book, Celebrity Detox: (the fame game). It comes out next month!

Even though I never met Rosie I now have such a familiar fondness and affinity to this warm individual that somehow manages to draw people to her, from all circles and all walks of life. She once was lost, but now she's found.

This one will surprise and touch you deeply...
By Kcorn
If you think Rosie O'Donnell is just a comedian with a kind heart (not that that's any small feat), think again. In this memoir she proves herself to be an amazingly good writer as well, able to delve into the deepest recesses of her life and bring forth the emotional gems of her life's history. Her honesty is touching as well, whether she is writing about her continuing struggles with insecurity, depression and the mixed blessings of being a celebrity or how hard it can be to balance a desire to save the world with limitations of time and energy.
While I couldn't put this book down, it was not always an easy read. O'Donnell's memoir was sparked by an unexpected encounter with a person named Stacie and the feelings that Stacie evoked in Rosie. Parts of these encounters were so painful to read that I had to put the book down and take a breather before returning to it.
I can't give you too many details of Stacie's life without spoiling the book for you but I can say that Stacie evokes memories in Rosie that help create this memoir.
While everyone knows O'Donnell is a funny, funny lady, if you are expecting this book to be filled with humor and jokes, you should probably look elsewhere. But if you want to know more about the real Rosie O'Donnell, the person who exists beyond the glare of studio lights and television appearances, you won't be disappointed. I admit I was surprised by how moving this book was. Kudos to Rosie!

I shouldn't be writing this review
By Denise Sebesta Lanier
Because I'm only half-way finished with the book. I had to stop and take a breather, though. It was too much. And yet not enough. I know I will pick it back up in a little while. My heart needs to hear the rest of the story. It's just that Rosie O'Donnell makes it all too real for me. She seems to know me - my secrets, my little-girl dreams, my nightmares, my wantings. It's frightening to be known by someone you have never even met. And it's healing. So incredibly, blessedly, grace-filled healing.
If you want someone to hold your hand and journey with you through the past, to your childhood soul - Rosie is just the person you need. She is the 'invisible friend' I never had. . . How did she "Find Me"?
