Amazon.com Review
They were a talented team with a near-perfect record but a reputation for choking in the crunch of the state playoffs. Finally, after five straight years of disappointments, the Amherst Lady Hurricanes found they just might have what it took to go all the way. This is a fierce, funny, and intimate look into their minds and hearts during one very special season. A finalist for the National Book Critics Circle Award for nonfiction.

From Publishers Weekly
When Pulitzer Prize-winner Blais pokes gentle fun at Amherst, Mass., where an infuriated teen-aged athlete in the heat of the fray may yell, "You ignore your inner child!" you suspect this will be a special book. And it is, as the reader follows the Amherst High girls basketball team-the Lady Hurricanes-in the 1992-93 season, from game one on December 15 to the final game on March 16, when they all but obliterated Haverhill, 74-36, to win the state championship. While this is the story of well-bred, upper-middle class, genteel girls who learned to be tough, it is also a picture of a changing period in American sports history, when a town rallied around its female athletes in a way that had previously been reserved for males. Alternately funny, exciting and moving, the book should be enjoyed not only by girls and women who have played sports but also those who wanted to but let themselves be discouraged.

From School Library Journal
YA?A much-needed addition to sports writing for women, this is a true-life account of the development of a high school basketball team from Amherst, Massachusetts. Extremely readable and compact, the book spans from a disappointing season's end to a triumphant one the following year. It is anecdotal and details the physical and psychological efforts each girl put into the development of the team. The players' individual stories cover jealousies, antagonisms, practice habits, diverse family situations, and sexual harassment. There is a wonderful sense of community in the small-town New England setting, and plenty of local color. The building of the will to win as a team recalls such movies as Hoosiers or A League of Their Own, both of which the girls watched to psyche themselves up for the state championship game. A readable, compelling choice.?Frances Reiher, Fairfax County Public Library, VA

This is THE best book I have read, ever.
By A Customer
I hadn't picked up this book until very recently because I was afraid it would be all about "girl power" and the idea that women are victims. But when I finally did pick it up, it took me only 2 nights to finish. It was so captivating. This book is not so much about the feminist movement as a groups of kids coming together, and concurrently, bringing their communtiy together. Blais also tells the story of each girl and the obstacles they have faced; but not in a "I'm a victim, have simpathy," way. She tells it in an "Is that all you got? I'm gonna walk all over you," way. Inspiring. This book couldn't have been written any more perfectly. As a high school athlete, I was able to associate with so many of the rituals and emotions of the team. I am also from the Amherst area and Blais does a wonderful job of painting a picture of the communtiy and its history. I recommend this book to everyone and anyone, but it should be required reading for every female high school athlete. It is simply unbelivable. You will not be disappointed.

One of the BEST books I have ever read!
By A Customer
This book was outstanding! It was such a good story and it was really well written. If you are looking for some inspiration about basketball and teamwork then you should read this book! These girls are just amazing. What made this whole story better was the fact that it was a true story so you know that this REALLY happened. It was almost like a fairy tale- everything went as planned. I can't really describe my feelings for this book, it was incredible. When Jenny hugged her dad after the game I almost cired. Everyone should read this book whether they like basketball or not! I would also like to wish Jamila Wideman a happy birthday! She will be turning 24 on October 16. So, HAPPY BIRTHDAY JAMILA!!

Captures the spirit of girls' high-school basketball
By A Customer
My high-school basketball team gave me this book after I finished my senior year, and I am extremely grateful to them. If you have ever enjoyed participating in, watching, or following high-school sports, this is a book for you! It is full of the things that made me love the game to start with... the determination, pride, euphoria, occasional let-downs, pain, tenacity and adrenaline that I feel when playing basketball are clearly demonstrated in this wonderful book. Pick it up and read it, buy it for your daughters, buy it for your sons!

The Maul and the Pear Tree: The Ratcliffe Highway Murders, 1811, by P. D. James, Thomas A. Critchley

In this riveting true crime account, acclaimed author P. D. James, the "Queen of the English mystery novel" (Newsweek) joins forces with historian T. A. Critchley to re-create the Radcliffe Highway murders, a series of vicious crimes committed in 1811 ... The scene is the London Docks near Wapping Old Stairs, a sinister neighborhood where pirates were often hanged. The first victims were two hardworking shopkeepers, along with their baby and shop boy. Twelve days later and only a few blocks away, an equally blameless pub owner was found together with his wife and servant, victims of equal cruelty and apparent absence of motive. The serial killings provoked nationwide notoriety and panic. With the atmosphere and pacing of her best novels, James reveals the rudimentary police system of Regency London coping with a major murder investigation -- and crimes that rank up there with Jack the Ripper, the Boston Strangler, and Son of Sam as the very symbol of murderous and unthinking brutality.

From Publishers Weekly
In 1811, London's East End was the scene of a series of murders so brutal and irrational that they caused panic throughout the city, which lacked a central police force. This engrossing account, marking the American nonfiction debut of British mystery novelist James, details the seven vicious ("brains battered out and throats butchered"), apparently motiveless slayings (which occurred first in a linen shop, then, days later, in a nearby pub); the confused efforts of local "police" groups; and the cases' suspiciously abrupt closing after suspect John Williams, a seaman and lodger at the Pear Tree public house, committed suicide in jail, thereby sealing his "guilt" and prompting a bizarre parade of his corpse (together with a murderous maul) throughout the city. James and police historian Critchley use documents and contemporary news accounts splendidly, pointing up the incompetence of the investigators and offering an intriguing view of what really happened. First published in Britain in 1971, this will certainly please James's following here.

Speculating Testimony
By RCM
A fan of P.D. James' mysteries, I was pleasantly surprised to discover this true crime book she had written with the historian T.A. Critchley. "The Maul and the Pear Tree" tells the tale of some sinister and disturbing murders that horrified and shocked the London docks in 1811. Through recreating the time period, studying testimony and accounts of the day, both author and historian have crafted an interesting read about not only murder but also about the restrictions of a rudimentary police system in trying to apprehend an otherwise unheard of serial killer.

In December of 1811, seven people were brutally slain. The first victims were the Marr family; a husband, wife, their infant son, and the boy who worked in their shop. All were found beaten to death with their throats cut to the neckbone, including the newborn son. The second victims were the Williamsons, the proprietors of a pub, who were slain in almost exactly the same manner as the Marrs.

The search that had begun with the Marr's murders, continued when the killer struck a second time. The clues were few, but included the murder weapon alluded to in the book's title. The testimony (both real and speculative) was plentiful, and the community was filled with terror and suspicion. The magistrates had an incredible task before them - to capture a killer before he, or they, since the evidence surely represented more than one killer, could strike again.

In 1811, the different policing agencies did not work together, and very rarely shared the information they received with another branch. This combined with sketchy details, suspicious neighbors, and the number of superfluous informants who came forward with information made a virtual circus of the trial process. Arrested and jailed on circumstantial evidence, a man by the name of John Williams was assumed to be the ghastly murderer that everyone had been searching for. Yet before he could be convicted of any crime, he was found hanged in his jail cell, apparently a self-murder. Yet the evidence shows that more than one person was involved in the murders of these two families. James and Critchley lay the groundwork for who the accomplices, or even who the mastermind behind these murders, might be. The author and historian even call into question whether or not Williams was set up and murdered by the real killer in order to guarantee his own escape. The truth shall never be known about the killer's identity, but "The Maul and the Pear Tree" is a highly informative, entertaining speculation about the Radcliffe Highway Murders.

Brilliant!
By L. Nery
Absolutely brilliant! At first, I wouldn't have believed so. I love true crime stories, but I thought it was a little bit presumptuous to try to solve a series of crime committed in the 1810's. But I read anyway, and it was a wonderful surprise.
First, the local color. The authors portray beautifully (and gloomily...) the city of London and the life of its inhabitants. It's also very informative - one comes to know how the English police force was first arranged, and what existed prior to that.
The characters, as we well know, are long dead, but through a series of educated guesses, psychological insight and factual information, the authors convey what was going through their minds.
P. D. James doesn't give us a final answer to the question of whom killed all those people, but she points a suspect, and by detailing her suspicions the reader is able to form his idea. Her theory is very plausible, to say the least.
In short, it's a book filled with suspense and humorous insights on the ideas and beliefs of the victorians. If you're interested in English history, famous true crime stories and whodunnits, do not miss this one.

Regency Era Murder Sensation
By Sires
The Ratcliffe Highway murders of 1811 were an incredible sensation in their time. The authors do a very good job of portraying a realistic look at life at the time of the killings. Whether or not the person who actually had the murders pinned on him was guilty is a question that can lead to long discussions with friends of like reading tastes. One thing I found surprising was how late people stayed up on the street in this era when street lighting was in its infancy.

I read a first edition of this book so I don't know if it has been updated to reflect some of the newer information that law enforcement has about home invasion murders as well as sadistic killers. That is the only thing I would possibly add to this very interesting history.

In James Patterson's blockbuster series, fourteen-year-old Maximum Ride, better known as Max, knows what it's like to soar above the world. She and all the members of the "flock"--Fang, Iggy, Nudge, Gasman and Angel--are just like ordinary kids--only they have wings and can fly. It may seem like a dream come true to some, but their lives can morph into a living nightmare at any time...like when Angel, the youngest member of the flock, is kidnapped and taken back to the "School" where she and the others were experimented on by a crew of wack jobs. Her friends brave a journey to blazing hot Death Valley, CA, to save Angel, but soon enough, they find themselves in yet another nightmare--this one involving fighting off the half-human, half-wolf "Erasers" in New York City. Whether in the treetops of Central Park or in the bowels of the Manhattan subway system, Max and her adopted family take the ride of their lives. Along the way Max discovers from her old friend and father-figure Jeb--now her betrayed and greatest enemy--that her purpose is save the world--but can she?

From Publishers Weekly
Themes from Patterson's popular adult titles When the Wind Blows and The Lake House waft through this YA thriller, the author's first in the genre. Wood stars as Maximum Ride, 14-year-old leader of a band of kids who have escaped the lab where they were bred as 98% human and 2% bird (wings being a key component) and developed a variety of other-worldly talents. In Patterson's unusual universe, Max and her young cohorts are soon forced to rescue one of their own—a girl named Angel—from a pack of mutant wolf-humans called Erasers. Wood nails Patterson's often adult-beyond-their-years dialogue with a jaded tone. But the result of this pairing makes Max sound more off-putting than cool or intriguing. The listening experience is stalled in the starting gate, keeping the action-adventure earthbound rather than high-flying. Ages 12-up. (Apr.)

From School Library Journal
Grade 7 Up–A group of genetically enhanced kids who can fly and have other unique talents are on the run from part-human, part-wolf predators called Erasers in this exciting SF thriller that's not wholly original but is still a compelling read. Max, 14, and her adopted family–Fang and Iggy, both 13, Nudge, 11, Gazzy, 8, and Angel, 6–were all created as experiments in a lab called the School. Jeb, a sympathetic scientist, helped them escape and, since then, they've been living on their own. The Erasers have orders to kill them so the world will never find out they exist. Max's old childhood friend, Ari, now an Eraser leader, tracks them down, kidnaps Angel, and transports her back to the School to live like a lab rat again. The youngsters are forced to use their special talents to rescue her as they attempt to learn about their pasts and their destinies. The novel ends with the promise that this journey will continue in the sequel. As with Patterson's adult mystery thrillers, in-depth characterization is secondary to the fast-moving plot. The narrative alternates between Max's first-person point-of-view and that of the others in the third person, but readers don't get to know Max very well. The only major flaw is that the children sound like adults most of the time. This novel is reminiscent of David Lubar's Hidden Talents (Tor, 1999) and Ann Halam's Dr. Franklin's Island (Random, 2002).–Sharon Rawlins, Piscataway Public Library, NJ

Aiming at an older youth readership this time and reworking ideas and characters that appeared first in his adult novels When the Wind Blows (1998) and The Lake House (2003), he delivers an action-packed cross between Gertrude Chandler Warner's Boxcar Children and Marvel Comics' X-Men. Fourteen-year-old Max (short for Maximum Ride) leads an usual group of children, escapees from an institution that designed them by "grafting avian DNA onto human genes." Yup, these kids have wings. When Angel, the smallest of the group, is kidnapped by mutants and taken back to the "school," Max and her family determine to get her back--no matter what. Patterson occasionally forgets his audience here, as evidenced by his sardonic tone and such glib adult asides as "they found their prey: moi," but he's picked a comfortable formula (orphans protecting one another and making a home together), which he's cushioned with an abundance of slavering beasts, childhood heartaches, and unresolved issues--all in preparation for the sequel in 2006, in which Max will, presumably, assume the role she's been assigned here: savior of the world. Expect the Patterson name to attract a crossover audience of both adults and youth. Stephanie Zvirin

AWESOME
By bookworm
While beginning this book, I expected it to be like some sort of dystopian plotline, only to receive a story that exceeded my expectations. Patterson, in my opinion, took a similar idea of the common yet enjoyed idea of flying powers and others like it, and twisted it into an idea of burden mixed with benefit. It leaves the reader confused on to how to feel about the idea of Max and the others having the admired and much wanted flying powers, but at the same time having their family stripped away. The plot twists in the book added to the excitement as well. This book also demonstrates the unique idea of mixing in strange feelings between two that once considered each other family. Yes, before you ask, I ship Fax. I recommend this book to those who are in the mood for something unique altogether.

I have enjoyed the whole series and now my 12 year old is begining to read them as well.
By Aundrea
I have read every book in the Maximum ride series and now am getting my 12 year old into them. I bought her this one and she loves it. I am enjoying talking about the characters, plot and science of it with her. The writing style and content are good for pre teen to adult, although I will say the last book had some adult themes in it that would keep me from letting her read it. This first book is my favorite of the series. Honestly, I think each one gets a little less realistic (if kids with wings are realistic at all) and there is a lot of repetition as the books progress.

Promising Premise, Sketchy Story
By Kevin L. Nenstiel
I feel like there's a good novel in here, waiting to be found. In fact, there are probably three good novels in here, and when Patterson finishes writing them, I'll come back and give them a good read. But right now this feels like an incomplete outline waiting for a less hasty author to finish writing the details.

Fourteen-year-old Maximum ride (that's Max to you) has been mother to her five foster siblings for the last four years, ever since they fled the School. Genetically modified marvels with angel wings and a growing panoply of superpowers, these kids have plenty to fear from the outside world. But not as much,it turns out, as they have to fear from their double-dealing foster dad.

This novel is pitched as a "young adult" book, and in fairness I can imagine some YA readers digging it for the same reason they like the X-Men and Ender's Game. It's about finding your identity, becoming a person you can be proud of, and why the things that make you feel weird may be the things that make you strong.

But I don't think most kids, regardless of the rah-rah boosterism, would just accept a world of flat characters, plot-driven coincidences, or writing that lowballs the audience's literacy. When I was fourteen, my friends and I read writers like Lloyd Alexander and Robert Silverberg, authors who wrote dense, compelling novels which a teen could understand but which I can still read and enjoy over twenty years later. Will any teens today say the same about James Patterson and Maximum Ride when they reach my age?

I doubt it.

Teens aren't stupid. They know when adults are talking down to them. Patterson, who cranks out about ten potboilers per year, seems to have decided to crack the Harry Potter market by lowering his expectations and submitting a novel that reads like a half-finished treatment for a comic book series or a TV movie.

You have a pretty good premise here, James. Now I look forward to seeing the novel in which you have an equally good product.

The Protein Power Lifeplan, by Michael R. Eades, Mary Dan Eades

The authors of Protein Power are back to advocate the "protein-rich, moderate-fat, carbohydrate-restricted diet" that opposes the high-carbohydrate, low-fat diet that every professional medical and dietetic organization (including those who have no diet books to sell) believes to be your best bet for avoiding heart disease, the number one killer. The authors insist, in the face of all this medical opposition, that "the whole idea that fat and cholesterol cause heart disease is just that: an idea." We're meant to be hunters, say the authors: bring on the meat. Let's go back to the Paleolithic diet (no mention of the brief life span of Paleolithic men and women). The Protein Power Lifeplan is not easy reading--most of the book is made up of scientific explanations, research summaries and interpretations, and nutritional warnings--but no recipes. Besides recommending eating protein and fat, the authors recommend sunbathing without sunblock (but "never, never let your skin burn!") and exercises such as "bringing home the buffalo" and "defending the camp." The authors admit that if you're trying to lose weight, you have to limit calories, but if you're not, you can "munch on nuts, seeds, nut butters, cheeses, jerky, guacamole, and olives all day long."Carbohydrates, say the authors, "are totally nonessential to your health and well-being"--words to make dieticians and cardiologists shudder.

Drs. Eades 4 stars, Amazon Reviewer 0 stars

It's a pity we can't vote on the helpfulness of an Amazon reviewer (A.R.). It should be noted that the Eades are much less dogmatic than A.R. about their ideas, and much less likely to resort to sarcasm when someone disagrees with them. Somehow, I suspect they're also better qualified to judge the scientific validity of their ideas. How many years has A.R. been practicing medicine?
Unlike A.R., the authors don't pretend to be all-knowing. In fact, they freely acknowledge that they have changed their minds about some things in their previous book, and they are careful to state that their advice is based on what they consider to be the best *current* evidence.
The previous book, Protien Power, was much more oriented to weight-loss, while this new book focuses more on overall wellness. I have read both and benefited from both.
The subject matter is sometimes rather technical, but their presentation is admirable. I suspect most readers will do fine if they're willing to give it a little thought.

Read it for yourself for YOUR health-not to please others!

Hi guys - Well the Eades' have put a lot of things out there that many drs do not condone. But the bottom line is, it works. It works for many many people. Just like we do not all respond to the same anti-biotic, we do not all respond to the same diet. I read Molly's review too. I also checked her history. She has added a blasting opinion to every protein-based diet book in the review section, saying each book is a waste of money. Few found her reviews helpful. So, take it with a grain of salt, since she is very anti-protein!
This diet may sound way out there. BUT, the Eades go into great detail, explaining HOW the cells utilize what we eat, HOW they react and WHAT certain foods do to them. I will never buy margarine again! I did not realize what it was doing INSIDE my body. I followed a low-fat diet for a year on the advice of my dr. I GAINED 50 lbs. Unusual? Perhaps. I was critized, and told I must have been cheating. I wasn't. I ate mostly fruits and salads, with occassional meats. Following this plan, I have lost 10 lbs in two weeks. That is probably not typical, but I have an a-typical amount to lose. I am out to lose 150 pounds.
I am not wanting to lose 5 lbs to fit into a certain dress, I am trying to get a life back! I want to go to movie theaters again, ride bikes again, enjoy my life again. I for one, was tired of being trapped in this bodily prison that I thought I alone had created. I suffered from depression as well. The solution? Another pill. Well, the depression has lifted since following this diet. So have other symptoms, such as incontinence. The benefits are enormous.
This diet might not work for you, but what have you got to lose by trying? I can feel my body getting back into line. I am also hypoglycemic, and this diet has allowed me to get off the blood sugar roller coaster. I highly recommend it. If you are overweight by over 50 lbs, and your doctor is telling you that your only problem is will power, you owe it to yourself to try it. It isn't all will power - there are complex body chemistries at play. So to borrow a phrase, Just Do It! Get the book and change your life!

I'm an ex Army Master Fitness Instructor that has trained literally hundreds of young adults and helped them to lose weight, get in shape and recover from injuries, ... The carbohydrate heavy food pyramid has been discredited by many if not most of even the most conservative health practitioners. It is even about to be yanked and revised by dramatically lowering the suggested carbohydrate intake. Study after study has revealed how easilly carbs are converted into sugars and stored as fat. More studies have also demonstrated that those folks who restrict fat intake lower there cholesterol all right....even the good cholesterol (HDL) and restricted fat diets can even cause an increase in triglyceride levels. This is probably the best book on the market right now for those who want to lose fat effectively and safely.

Mississippi, 1963. Essie Lee Lane is a small-town girl who doesn't take "stuff" from nobody. Yet even she isn't ready for the Reverend Theophilus Simmons, one of the South's most fiery and respected young preachers. Down-to-earth, caring, and oh-so-fine, he's everything Essie never thought she'd find in a man, and he realizes she is everything a pastor needs in a wife. But Essie and Theophilus soon discover that dealing with the contentious members of Theophilus's church will be no honeymoon-especially when a couple of First Lady wannabes and a few blasphemous preachers enter the picture. With their parishioners in turmoil and their denomination facing a major scandal, Essie and Theophilus must put their faith and love to the ultimate test as they struggle to lead their congregation to God's sweetest rewards.

From Publishers Weekly
This third book in Warner/Walk Worthy's copublishing venture spotlighting African-American culture shows promise for the general market, but will be a hard sell to the CBA. Young, handsome Theophilus Simmons is learning the ropes of being a black clergyman in the 1960s. He's also regretting his affair with the hot-to-trot Glodean, who's pleased numerous pastors with her sex-capades. After Simmons marries "jook joint" cook Essie Lee Lane, the couple settles into pastoral life at Greater Hope Gospel United Church where Glodean is a member. There's trouble brewing. It's not long before they discover that the church leadership is actually running a call-girl service out of a local funeral home. The issues are hot but not as hot as the characters. In every chapter, pastors are either leaping into bed, resisting sex, having sex, talking about sex or contemplating their next hop into the sack. Readers will enjoy the rich glimpses into the spirit-filled African-American church of the '60s, complete with politicking, blackmail, colorful dialogue and extensive clothing descriptions. But the sexual situations and language e.g., "dick teasers," "hell," "damn," "bitch" and "balls" will send most CBA retailers, and their conservative clientele, running in the opposite direction. Regardless, many African-American readers will embrace this steamy morality tale, with its bold themes and fallible characters, as a satisfying addition to the scanty collection of African-American fiction with Christian themes.

From Booklist
Rural Mississippi in the 1960s stood in the midst of the civil rights movement. Social changes began in black churches. Essie Lee Lane, a small-town girl who is faithful to her church and loyal to her family, meets the man of her dreams in an unlikely encounter. The Reverend Theophilus Henry Simmons is an eligible pastor, as smitten with Essie as she is with him. After they begin a long-distance courtship between Mississippi and Tennessee, the couple decide to marry. They soon find that the blessings of being the "first couple" come with challenges from the local church and the national denomination. The secular issues of greed, sex, misconduct, money, and politics are as evident and dangerous in the church as outside. These human failings cause the Simmonses to struggle with their roles as husband and wife as well as church leaders. The Reverend Mr. Simmons is faced with taking a stand that will forever separate him from the ordinary and make the church congregation proud. Accepting this assignment becomes a test of his faith and the steppingstone for his future. Lillian Lewis

church folks
By Bernard Haines
Church FolkThis Story is a breath of fresh air in literature dealing with the church. Though it is fiction, its bases is rooted in Historical fact, anyone associated with an episcopal-type church setting[churches run by Bishops} can readily see its reality. The

church organiztion described is a grass-root organiztion as the clergy are paid a nominal salary inducing some to take shortcuts in gaining funds to downright extortion. Rev. Theophillus Simmons is a dedicated minister who ends up well. Rev. Marcel Browm and cronies break the rules and is brought down by his spurned fiance Saphronia. Saphronia is the real heroine of the story. Hell Has no fury like a woman scorned. The story is set in the rural south between 1960-1964. This story needs a sequel,or a series. It would lend itself to the big screen. the story grips you from the start,it is easy reading . It is worth your time.

Church Folks "A Peculiar People"
By M. Jones
Chile! This book is too funny. (hint) Pastor's false teeth falling out during service (I laughed so hard while reading it on the bus the lady next to me just got and sat somewhere else-She must have thought I was crazy!) I LOVED IT!*!*! I like the way she tells this story. This book comes at a time in my life when I struggled with the dilemma of dealing with crooked christians. It reminded me that I am not losing my mind, but that the wheat and tare will be growning together until harvest time. The characters are so tangible. The storyline was excellent! I am now reading her next book "Second Sunday". My only critizism is this, the slang used in the book doesn't seem to fit the era or maybe its me. Maybe she should do some research and find out what slang terms were used during the 60' & 70's. Other than that she has my vote!

A misleading title providing false hope
By Noori Pandit
I suffer from Macular Degeneration and bought the book, hoping to find, as the title suggests, a way to reverse the disease. There was no proven cure in the book. Plus, the book has only one chapter on MD, not the whole book as might be construed from the title. Millions of Americans suffer from MD for which there is no definite cure. The title is a good sales booster. People like me who have been told by numerous physicians that there is no cure, will buy the book. If you are a patient of MD, eat a lot of bilberry, antioxidants and lutein( found in leafy greens like spinach) and most of all, pray. God made us and He only can cure; we can only try, it is He that can make it happen.

Out of Date
By FM
This book is out of date medically. Since it was published in 1998 there have been many advances in the treatment of Age Related Macular Degeneration. While nutritional support remains the only current treatment for the dry form of the disorder there are several approaches to treatment for the wet form which results in much quicker loss of vision. I have received eye injections of a chemotherapy drug every 6 weeks for 18 months for the wet form with excellent results. The drug stops the growth of new blood vessels under the retina which is what causes much of the damage. Current medical treatment options give significantly more reason to be hopeful that the wet form of the disorder can be successfully managed. New approaches are in the research and development phases. The nutritional information presented by Dr.Rose is relevant to everyone wishing to be as healthy as possible.

This book should be in every optition's shop
By A Customer
This book is the best I have found on this dreadful condition - it proves that your eyesight is connected to your general wellbeing. It should be the bible of every Optician and Eye Specialist. It explains why macular degeneration occurs and what you can do about it. It gives one hope after being told 'go away - there is nothing we can do for you. Thank you Doctors
